Her first birthday cake

Last week, it was my cousin's first birthday and I made her a birthday cake. I wasn't sure I should share it on the blog, because I didn't really use anything of my own, but... I don't know. I decided to share it anyway because everyone in my family seemed to love it and it's such an easy and adorable idea that maybe you'd find it helpful too.

The cake recipe is from Sweetapolita, and you can find it here. I made the cake for her Christening party and I tried tons of vanilla cake recipes for that (because I'm a perfectionist and I really wanted it to be perfect), and that's the best one!
For the icing, I bough a can of vanilla icing and added pink food coloring to it. I tried to make it myself but, icings are just not my thing.
The toppers, are from this blog.

Colorful bobby pins

I always wear my hair half up half down, so bobby pins are like my best friends! I wear them pretty much every day and it can get a little bit boring, but thanks to this tutorial I can "customize" my hairstyle a little bit and give my look a splash of color!

All you need is:
  • Bobby pins
  • Nail polish
  • Paper
Sólo necesitas:
  • Horquillas
  • Pintauñas
  • Papel

Fold the paper as shown below (not exactly in two halves) and "pin" the bobby pins into one of the edges.

Choose your favorite nail polish and start applying a thick coat to the bobby pin. The reason why I didn't fold the paper right in the half it's because we now have like an extra piece of paper in case we paint too much. I'm obviously going for bright pink!
Yo he elegido un color rosa fuerte (previsible).

Let them dry well before wearing. You can also apply glitter to them!
Déjalas secar bien antes de ponértelas. ¡Tambíen puedes echarles purpurina!

Spiral cookies

Ingredients
  • 200 g butter (Room temperature)
  • 125g white sugar
  • 350g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • A pinch of salt
Ingredientes
  • 200g de mantequilla a temperatura ambiente
  • 125g de azúcar blanca
  • 250g de harina
  • Una clara de huevo
  • Un cucharadita de zumo de limón
  • Una pizca de sal
Instructions

Pre-heat oven to 180ºC / 350ºF.
Precalienta el horno a 180ºC / 350 ºF.

Mix all the ingredients. Then, split the dough in two and add food coloring to one them.

Roll both doughs on different anti-adherent papers. If the dough is sticky and doesn't roll very well, don't lose your mind. Remember it's not a pizza, you may not be able to just roll in every direction like crazy. Just gently roll a couple of times in just one direction and then in the opposite one.

Place one dough on top of the other. You can cut the ends to get straight borders. Then, simply start rolling both doughs at the same time.

TIP: If the dough at the bottom is stick to the paper, place the other paper in top of it and turn it upside down, so that you'll have the doughs on the other paper.

Wrap the dough with the paper and put it in the refrigerator for half an hour. Then slice the dough and place each slice on a paper. I used a cake layer slicer to get a nice and clean cut.

You can give them a more rounded shape with your hands when you do that. Make sure you leave a nice separation between them, because they do spread and you don't want them to join together and lose their round shape (like it happened to me)

Bake them for about 9 minutes. They may seem uncooked, but they're fine. Just let them cool before removing them from the paper.

When I was doing this, I realized they kind of looked like lollipops, so I inserted some sticks into two of them before putting them in the over and... I MADE LOLLIPOP COOKIES!

Primp your mac

I found this idea on Pinterest and I seriously love it! It looks so cute and it's so easy to make!

All you need is:
  • Washi tape
  • A pencil
  • Scissors

  • Washi tape
  • Un lápiz
  • Tijeras
First, paste some washi tape stripes covering your macbook's apple. Make sure there's a piece of tape in top of the others, so that you'll be able to unstick all of them like a sticker.

Copy the shape of the apple with a pencil.

Unstick all the washi tape strips at the same time (as if you had a sticker). Cut the apple and paste it back in its place.

20 facts about me

Hey!
For my first post, I decided to write 20 facts about me so that you will get to know a little bit.

  1. I hate my name. And nobody who doesn't speak Spanish can pronounce it right, so I'd rather just be called Be.
  2. I love Greek and anything greek. I even took (modern) Greek lessons for two years.
  3. I volunteered at the London 2012 Olympics.
  4. I study computer science and I'm the only girl in my class most of the time, which I think makes me want to be as chic as possible.
  5. I always thought I was born in the wrong time of history.
  6. When I was little, my friends and I decided to never wear pink, dresses or skits. I love those three things now. I guess my old me would hate my actual me, but I don't regret anything.
  7. 80% of the times I say I wish I knew how to do something, I actually end up learning it.
  8. I'm really stubborn.
  9. I always wished I had an older brother.
  10. I love making lists. I just keep making lists of anything: things I want to do before I die, things I have to do, things I have to pack, wishlists...
  11. I hate how I look in pictures, so I barely have any pictures of myself.
  12. My favorite m&m is the blue one, and my favorite gummy bear is the green one.
  13. I'm terrible at working with other people. I always end up doing everything myself because I never like how anyone does things.
  14. I hate talking on the phone. I feel stupid talking out loud when I'm on my own. Although I think it's because my house has very thin walls, so everyone can listen to what I'm saying.
  15. I'm very superstitious.
  16. My biggest dream is to be a mother some day.
  17. My life would be so much better if I lived in the US.
  18. I (almost) never delete music from my phone, so you can find the weirdest, most embarrassing songs there.
  19. I love saying "super" when I'm talking in Spanish, and "oh my gosh" when I'm talking in English.
  20. I always carry a band-aid in my wallet, that way I make sure I always have one with me.
¡Hola!
  5. Siempre he creído que he nacido en el momento de la historia equivocado.
Ahora esas cosas me encantan.
  8. Soy muy cabezota.
  9. Siempre quise tener un hermano mayor.
  10. Me encanta hacer listas.
